Dominic Borrows-Jones

This project was a commission for St James hotel in Nottingham where me and fellow classmates had to produce artwork revolving around Nottingham in some way. I chose to look at buildings and architecture for my theme i then narrowed it down do producing a large scale fine liner drawing of Nottingham's oldest pubs. The idea behind this work was to showcase that Nottingham has a variety of some of the oldest Inns in Britain. Having my work on display in St James hotel would give visitors an idea of somewhere to visit on there stay. This commission project gained me skills in communicating with a well established business to discuss my ideas to determine whether it would work well with the hotels aesthetic. I also had to help hang my art and work on the display of the show.

Postcards of the heart is my own mono print and transferring of images to create a rather plain but quite personal series of postcard size pieces. The meaning for this series are all to do with my family and how were separated and live in different cities and countries but were a tight unit and stick together no matter what. I got the chance to exhibit this work of mine at Stoney street new college Nottingham with my fellow class members. I had to hang my own work and help others put there work on display which was a new experience for me but I believe it helped with my work ethic and gave me more independence. I also found that I worked well with others and over came any challenges I faced.

Photoshoot explained  The purpose of this photoshoot was for me to be photographed in an area that made the style of clothing i am wearing look out of place and stand out. The reason being is i want to show that we feel pressured to dress and look a certain way in different places.                                                

Artist statement I am Dominic James Borrows-Jones and am currently living in Nottingham. i am studying fine art degree at central college Clifton. I believe I don’t have a favoured media which I like to stick with, I enjoy experimenting and trying out new media with each project. Previous to this course I did a lot of illustration and I believe this is my most favoured area of art. I've  tried to step outside my comfort zone and try out new media which has been successful  but I want to get back into drawing as I find it most therapeutic . My work often revolves around my family and myself as I enjoy letting people have an insight into my life. A previous project of mine was about separation  between families and how I believe everything happens for a reason. My style is often very intricate as I like my work to be rather clean and precise.
